Meme:10 Things I Miss Of Mom's Cooking

This Meme is sexist or What?? My dad cooks stuff way tastier then my mom does / can. It's another matter that he does not know what he is cooking but the end result is yummmmmy*slurp*.

My Usual Tag Bakra tagged me to do this  last week. I am so sorry for the delay in doing this  tag Luttapi's Mom!!

This one tag is very much apt for someone Like me who has spent most of his last 11 years away from home. The most repetitive decision that I have to undertake every day is what to have for my meals and trust me it's no fun!!! Hmm I am gonna list 10 things I miss from my Achamma (Grandma)'s , Mom's  & DAD's cooking...

  1. My Achamma used to make the most delicious Upma  ever. Before I used to despise Upma but after I had the Upma she made .. I used to practically beg her to make me some Upma on sundays. That was the only day she used to be in the Kitchen. I so miss her. I still can't get over the fact she is not with us anymore.Such a Big Void.....
  2. My Dad's Vendakka  ( Ladys finger..Bhindi) Curry...every time  he makes  it would taste different but it always tastes yummmy....
  3. Pulinkari made by Mom.. is just purrrrfect. There was time in my teen years when I was called Pulinkari Veeran by my uncles & cousins because of how much  I liked Pulinkari.
  4. Pavaka  (Bittergoaurd...Karela) thoran made by My Achamma. Crispy & tasty...many a times I would reach home from school dash in to the kitchen , get some rice & put it in the frying pan in which the thoran was made. I used to take that and eat out of the frying pan, watching TV & scooting when some unexpected visitors dropped in. Mom has admonished me many a time but well I used to like that spicy & greasy taste. Mind You when one is  in the age group of 9 to 19.. calories...fat ...cholesterol..Blood Pressure are not the things one worries about.
  5. Sambar from my Amma's Kitchen. The best combination was having the cold Sambar from the fridge with nice hot chapathi's....The sambar would be pretty spicy. I guess Christine would vouch about that!!;)
  6.  Puli Inchi made by Amma. Used to take in big glass jar's to the college. Me  & My roomies  loved it.
  7. Egg Burjee That my Dad Makes. He would use all the Masala & Spices he can find and lots of Ghee to make the end result yummy. That with Chapathi used to be in my lunch box most of my final year in school. I do think I have inherit genetically some of his Egg Burjee making skills among other things...
  8. Nice Crispy Dosa with Onion Chuntney by Amma. At times when I would be having those I don't usually count the number of Dosa's  I Know it would be futile exercise and it does not serve any purpose. I just love this combo...
  9. Nice Hot Ada That Achamma used to make. I remember going to that one special tree ( forgot the name.. :r ) in our yard and plucking the leaves so that the Ada's can be steamed in them. The  nice Mix Jaggery & shredded coconut was a delight to my taste buds.
  10. Ari Unda  Amma makes. It's her specialty. Even now every time someone is coming to this part of the World she sends me some of those.....it's  just so delicious!!
Now the interesting part of tagging others...
  • Neil.... I know you live away from your folks so I guess that makes you eligible to do this tag.
  • Thanu....I do a Tag & you don't?? Kabhi Nahi.....;)
  • Archu....I know You live near your Mom but that does not mean You don't get tagged :P
Hmmm.. Luttapi's Amma... Gah  what a Tag!!! Thanks to you.. now I am craving for all the delicious stuff my folks make. And the best I can do is go to Uddupi Hotel for Lunch!!!
